Slammers Rally To Win In OT, Advance To RBC Final


Saturday, May 12th 2012

 The Woodstock Slammers (2-3) rallied on 2 seperate occasions to edge the Humboldt Broncos (4-1) 4-3 in overtime Saturday afternoon in Humboldt, Saskatchewan in Game #11 (Semi-Final) of the Royal Bank Cup. The Slammers will now advance to the Final and will face the winner of tonight’s other Semi-Final game between the Penticton Vees and the Soo Thunderbirds. With the loss, the Broncos are eliminated from the Royal Bank Cup.

Tim Campbell led the Slammers with 2 goals and 1 assist while Ryan Marshall led the Broncos with 1 goal and 1 assist.

Marshall (powerplay), assisted by Andrew Johnston and Andrew Herle opened the scoring at 17:52 to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead. John Lawrence (powerplay unassisted) scored at 19:21 to extend the lead to 2-0 after the first period. Campbell, assisted by Ben Miller and Evan Carmody scored at 4:44 to get the Slammers on the scoreboard at 2-1. Campbell (powerplay, second goal of game), assisted by Zach Shannon and Carmody scored at 9:27 to tie the game at 2-2. Logan Sproule, assisted by Marshall and Johnston scored at 18:47 to retake the lead for Humboldt at 3-2 after the second period. Sam Caldwell (powerplay), assisted by Campbell and Andrew Langan scored at 6:24 to even the game at 3-3 after the third period. Ben MacSwain (game winner), assisted by Connor Tresham and Bradley Greene scored 35 seconds into overtime for the win.

Woodstock went 2 for 5 on the powerplay while Humboldt went 2 for 7.

Matt Murphy stopped 40 of 43 shots for the win while Matt Hrynkiw stopped 20 of 24 shots in the loss.
