Bearcats’ Goyer commits to Hobart College

The Truro Bearcats have announced that goaltender Mavrick Goyer has committed to Hobart College, an NCAA Division III school, for the 2022-23 season. The 19-year-old from Saint-Sophie, Quebec was named the MHL’s Top Goaltender in 2021-22 and an Eastlink South All-Star for his stellar play between the pipes.

Goyer first broke into the MHL in 2020-21 with the Summerside Western Capitals, where he went 2-0-1-0 in three games with a 3.31 goals against average and an .882 save percentage. Starting the 2021-22 season, Goyer had a 7-1-0-0 record in Summerside with a 2.41 goals against average and a .902 save percentage. He was named the MHL’s Top Goaltender in October and a Player of the Week twice that month, but was traded in early December to Truro.

Goyer finished the regular season with an 8-2-1-0 record in eleven games with the Bearcats, a 1.82 goals against average and a .948 save percentage. For the season overall, Goyer led the league with a 2.07 goals against average, a .932 save percentage, and five shutouts. He was named Top Goaltender in February and an Honourable Mention in March, along with being named a Player of the Week twice in Truro In the Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs, he led Truro to an appearance in the league final against Summerside, where Truro fell in five games. However, Goyer had a 9-8-0 record with a 2.66 goals against average and a .923 save percentage in the postseason.
