Blizzard defend Eastlink North title with Game 6 win over Chaleur

Edmundston to defend Metalfab MHL Cup title, winning Eastlink North title

The Edmundston Blizzard beat the Chaleur Lightning 6-1 in Game 6 of the Eastlink North Division Final in Bathurst, powered by a hat trick from Noah Larochelle.

The home side got on the board first as David Lebel’s goal at 12:26 for Chaleur was the only scoring in the 1st period. The Blizzard came out strong in the 2nd period. Larochelle scored at 11:04 and 18:45, with Michael Derbidge scoring in between at 15:29. The Blizzard outshot the Lightning 17-7 in the middle frame.

William Labranche made it a 4-1 lead for Edmundston at 1:55 of the 3rd period. Larochelle finished off his hat trick at 3:35, and Émile Fournier rounded out the scoring at 8:48 on the powerplay. Shots were again in favour of the Blizzard in the final period, 14-6.

Cedric Massé made 24 saves for the victory, while Jack Flanagan stopped 33 of 39 shots he faced for Chaleur in the loss.

The Blizzard will return to the Metalfab MHL Cup Final to defend their league championship from last season against either the Summerside Western Capitals or the Truro Bearcats. Game 6 of the Eastlink South Division Final is Sunday night in Truro.
