Busy stretch begins Thursday ahead of the MHL Showcase

The ice is in at the Campbellton Memorial Civic Centre as the Tigers prepare for their home opener on Friday, October 5th.

October is here and it’s a busy week as teams gear up for the MHL Showcase at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, beginning on Monday.

Games kick off tonight in New Glasgow as the Pictou County Weeks Crushers host the South Shore Lumberjacks, which will be available on Eastlink Community TV. Both teams are coming off 5-1 losses on home ice.

On Friday, the Campbellton Tigers will be the final team in the league to open their 2018-19 schedule on home ice as they host the Valley Wildcats. The Tigers dropped road games against Edmundston and Amherst last week. Valley have dropped three straight, and all four of their points have been via overtime or the shootout. Also on Friday, Truro look to avenge a road loss to the Mariners last week, South Shore heads to Amherst after posting two wins last week, and Grand Falls host a Miramichi squad that picked up three of a possible four points last week.

Ten of the league’s twelve teams are on the ice Saturday, headlined by a big tilt in Summerside as the Western Capitals host Yarmouth. The Mariners jumped from 15th to 4th in the CJHL’s weekly Top 20 national rankings on Monday. Elsewhere, the Eastlink North-leading St. Stephen Aces are in Amherst, Valley continue a New Brunswick road trip in Miramichi, Grand Falls and Edmundston clash for the third time in the Rapids’ first six games, and the Battle of Mount Thom resumes in Truro as the Crushers make their first visit to the Rath Eastlink Community Centre this season.

All games are available on HockeyTV.

Statistically Speaking
Cody Grant started the season with a goal four straight games, which was snapped last Thursday in South Shore’s loss to Yarmouth. Barrett Dachyshyn has registered at least one assist in each of the Pictou County Weeks Crushers’ first five games.

Yarmouth scored 16 goals in three games last week which were, unsurprisingly, all wins. Sixteen players found the scoresheet. Andrew Martell led the way with four goals and an assist. Three other players had four points: Brent Broaders, Brett Crossley, and Logan Timmons.
