Busy weekend ahead as October schedule comes to a close

It’s hard to believe, but the Maritime Junior Hockey League is nearly through the first two months of the season. Week 7 features a schedule mainly in Eastlink North Division rinks, where eight of the eleven games will take place.

Three games are on tap Thursday. Eastlink North-leading Summerside (10-3-0-0) hit the road to play Miramichi (4-6-2-0), who are playing three games in three days this week. The Western Capitals took their first meeting with the Timberwolves 6-4. Fredericton (7-5-0-0) hosts the first of two games this week as they welcome Grand Falls (3-7-2-0). The Red Wings split their games last week, losing 4-3 to Miramichi before picking up a 3-1 win in Amherst (6-5-1-0). The Rapids play three games in four days this week. Finally, Yarmouth (7-4-2-1) travel to plat the Crushers (6-5-0-0). The Mariners lost in a shootout to Campbellton (6-3-1-0) and then in regulation to the Timberwolves last weekend. Pictou County took two of three games last week, beating Valley (3-10-0-0) and Truro (2-7-0-4), but losing a 5-4 decision to South Shore (10-3-0-0).

Speaking of the Wildcats and Bearcats, they square off in Berwick on Friday. Truro is looking to rebound from a 5-3 loss to Summerside and an 8-7 shootout loss to Pictou County. Valley has lost four in a row, all by two goals or less. South Shore begins a tour of New Brunswick with a stop in Campbellton. The Lumberjacks have won three in a row and sit atop the Eastlink South. Fredericton host another game on Friday as they play Miramichi. The teams have traded 4-3 wins so far this season. Edmundston (9-2-0-0) head down the highway to play in Grand Falls. it’s a rematch from Sunday where the Blizzard picked up a 4-0 home win.

On Saturday, it’s the MHL Game of the Week as the Western Capitals host the 2nd place Edmundston Blizzard.  The home team has held serve in the season series. Edmundston picked up a 5-2 vistory on September 20th, which Summerside answered on October 12th with a 7-2 win. This game is free to watch on HockeyTV. Elsewhere, South Shore visits Miramichi and Valley heads to Amherst. The Ramblers picked up a road victory over Valley in their last game.

The schedule wraps up Sunday with another Eastlink North matchup as Campbellton hit the road to face Grand Falls.
