Chaleur downs Grand Falls in overtime to advance to Eastlink North Final

Chaleur clinches Eastlink North Semi-Final in five games to advance in the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs

The Chaleur Lightning will face the Edmundston Blizzard in the Eastlink North Division Final after a 5-4 overtime win in Grand Falls on Sunday night to eliminate the Rapids in five games.

The home side opened the scoring at 13:42 of the 1st period on a goal from Declan Kennedy, but Chaleur responded before the end of the period with a goal from David Lebel.

Reid Calder scored just ten seconds into the 2nd period to put Grand Falls up 2-1, but Chaleur scored the next three goals. Mason Cook tied the game at 2 at 7:52, Zachary Rushton made it 3-2 for Chaleur at 10:11, and Carter Bromley scored his fourth goal of the series at 12:55 to make it 4-2 for the Lightning. Jonah Leard cut the lead to 4-3 at 15:55 of the 2nd period.

Nathan Plamondon-Michaud scored the lone goal of the 3rd period at 16:49 to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame, Rushton scored his second goal of the game at 7:30 to give the Lightning the 5-4 victory.

Jack Flanagan made 39 saves in the victory, while Adam Lecours had 30 saves for Grand Falls.
