Coaching Announcement – Chaleur Lightning Hockey Club
May 13, 2026 – The Chaleur Lightning Hockey Club announces that Head Coach Matt Wright will not be returning for the 2026–2027 season.
For family reasons, Coach Wright has decided to remain in Fredericton for the upcoming year. While we are disappointed by his departure, we are grateful for the leadership and direction he provided during our inaugural season, during which the team thrived under his guidance.
Although Coach Wright experienced medical issues that required him to miss six weeks of the season, he returned and seamlessly resumed his responsibilities. Coach Wright will continue to be involved with the organization in other capacities, including scouting and player development, and will continue supporting youth hockey in the Chaleur Region through his leadership role with Champions Hockey (Fredericton).
On behalf of the ownership group and staff, we thank Matt for his contributions to Season One and wish him continued success.
As Matt steps away from the role, we are pleased to announce that the team’s Associate Coach, Francis Rochon, who served with the club during its inaugural season, will assume the role of Head Coach.
We are confident this will be a smooth transition, and we know players and fans will welcome Francis in this role, given the important contributions he has made to the growth of the Northern Moose U18 program.

Annonce du personnel d’entraîneurs – Club de hockey Lightning Chaleur
13 mai 2026 – Le Club de hockey Chaleur Lightning annonce que l’entraîneur-chef Matt Wright ne sera pas de retour pour la saison 2026-2027.
Pour des raisons familiales, l’entraîneur Wright a décidé de demeurer à Fredericton pour la prochaine année. Bien que nous soyons déçus de son départ, nous sommes reconnaissants du leadership et de la direction qu’il a apportés lors de notre saison inaugurale, au cours de laquelle l’équipe a connu beaucoup de succès sous sa gouverne.
Même si l’entraîneur Wright a dû s’absenter pendant six semaines au cours de la saison en raison de problèmes de santé, il est revenu et a repris ses responsabilités de façon exemplaire. Il continuera de s’impliquer au sein de l’organisation dans différents rôles, notamment au niveau du dépistage et du développement des joueurs, tout en poursuivant son implication auprès du hockey mineur dans la région Chaleur grâce à son rôle de leadership avec Champions Hockey.
Au nom du groupe de propriétaires et du personnel, nous remercions Matt pour sa contribution à cette première saison et lui souhaitons beaucoup de succès pour la suite.
Alors que Matt quitte ce poste, nous sommes heureux d’annoncer que l’entraîneur adjoint de l’équipe, Francis Rochon, qui a oeuvré avec le club lors de sa saison inaugurale, assumera désormais le rôle d’entraîneur-chef.
Nous sommes convaincus que cette transition se fera en douceur et nous savons que les joueurs ainsi que les partisans accueilleront Francis avec enthousiasme dans ce nouveau rôle, compte tenu de l’importante contribution qu’il a apportée à la croissance du programme Northern Moose U18.

« Alors que nous traversons cette transition, l’équipe procédera également à l’embauche d’un nouvel entraîneur adjoint afin de travailler aux côtés de Francis et d’être présent pour les joueurs en tout temps. Le personnel travaille actuellement sur ce dossier et espère avoir quelque chose en place rapidement. » — Roger Shannon
