Crushers’ Deacon commits to Buffalo State University

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers have announced that forward Blake Deacon has committed to Buffalo State University, an NCAA Division III program.

The 21-year-old from Port Williams, N.S. was a territorial draft selection by the Valley Wildcats in the 2019 MHL Entry Draft, picked 49th overall. He played just nine games in his rookie season with Valley, scoring four goals.

In 29 games during the 2020-21 season, Deacon had three goals and eight assists. He played just eight regular season games with Valley in 2021-22, registering two goals and an assist. In the playoffs, he had two goals and an assist in twelve games.

Deacon started the 2022-23 season with the Wildcats, playing just three games before being dealt to South Shore in December and then sent to Pictou County at the trade deadline in January. Deacon was a point-per-game player for the Crushers with ten goals and thirteen assists in 23 games. He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once with Pictou County. In the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, he had one goal and one assist in four games.
