The Pictou County Weeks Crushers have announced that goaltender Thomas Fontaine has committed to the Concordia Stingers.
The 20-year-old from Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot, Quebec spent two seasons in the Maritime Junior Hockey League. He joined the Yarmouth Mariners for the 2023-24 season and was named to the Eastlink South All-Star team after posting a record of 19-10-2-2. He was second in the MHL with a .921 save percentage, had the second-most saves with 1118, tied for second with two shutouts, and played the third-most minutes. Fontaine’s 2.91 goals against average was fifth in the league. He was named Top Goaltender in October 2023 and made the Eastlink South Team of the Week four times. In the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, Fontaine went 1-3-1 with a 3.76 goals against average and a .915 save percentage against Summerside.
Fontaine was dealt to the Crushers a few days before the 2024-25 trade deadline. At the time, he had an 8-17-0-1 record with a 3.77 goals against average and an .899 save percentage. With Pictou County, Fontaine went 6-4-0-0 in the regular season with a 3.47 goals against average and .889 save percentage in eleven games. In the playoffs, Fontaine went 8-5-0-0 with a 3.22 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once during the season.
