The Pictou County Weeks Crushers have announced that defenseman Cory MacGillivray has committed to St. Francis Xavier University for next season.
The 21-year-old from New Glasgow, N.S. was a Territorial Draft Pick of the Crushers, 51st overall, in the 2021 MHL Entry Draft. He played 38 games for Pictou County in the 2021-22 season, registering three goals and ten assists. His thirteen points were third among rookie blueliners.
After two-and-a-half seasons in the QMJHL with the Rimouski Océanic, Gatineau Olympiques, and Acadie-Bathurst Titan, MacGillivray returned to Pictou County and tallied six assists in seventeen regular season games. He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once. In the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, MacGillivray had one goal and one assist in eight games in helping the Crushers reach the league final against Edmundston.
Returning to the club in 2025-26 as an assistant captain, finished fourth in defenseman scoring in the MHL with 52 points in 51 games. Among blueliners, MacGillivray’s twelve goals were third-most and 40 assists fifth-most in the league, while he finished fourth in powerplay points (17) on the strength of sixteen powerplay assists. He also had three game-winning goals, which were the second-most at his position. He was an Honourable Mention for Top Defenseman in November and was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week seven times.
