The Pictou County Weeks Crushers have announced that defenseman Drew Maddigan has committed to St. Francis Xavier University for 2025-26.
The 20-year-old from Hammond’s Plains, N.S. was drafted by Pictou County in the 8th Round, 117th overall, in the 2020 MHL Entry Draft. He spent three and a half seasons in the QMJHL with Drummondville and Acadie-Bathurst where he compiled eight goals and sixteen assists in 140 games. Maddigan joined the Crushers in January 2024 and tallied one goal and three assists in twelve games to finish off the 2023-24 regular season.
With just a few games left in the 2024-25 season, he’s second in points among defensemen with 45. Maddigan is tied with Fredericton’s Ryan Hopkins with the most goals among blueliners (14), and is third in assists with 31. Maddigan has been a key member of the Pictou County powerplay, ranking first in powerplay goals (10) and points (25), and sitting third in assists (15th). he sits fourth in team scoring.
He was named an Honourable Mention for Top Defenseman in November and took the award for the league’s Top Defenseman in January. To this point in the season, he’s been named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week four times.
