Crushers’ O’Neil commits to St. FX

St. Francis Xavier University has announced that Pictou County Weeks Crushers forward Logan O’Neil has committed to their program for next season.

O’Neil, from Sydney, N.S., was drafted by the Crushers in the 7th Round, 102nd overall, in the 2020 MHL Entry Draft and ended his Junior A career with 73 goals and 178 assists in 149 games for the team.

O’Neil joined Pictou County for the 2022-23 season. He played all 52 games for the Crushers with fifteen goals and 34 assists. In the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, O’Neil had one goal and two assists in four games. He was named to the Rookie All-Star Team and made the Eastlink South Team of the Week once during the season.

In 2023-24, O’Neil again had 49 points, with 27 goals and 22 assists in 51 games. He tied Miramichi’s Will Allen for the league lead in shorthanded goals with four. O’Neil was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week on one occasion.

O’Neil finished sixth in league scoring in 2024-25 with 80 points in 46 games. He tied Amherst’s Mathis Perron for sixth with 31 goals and was fifth in the MHL with 49 assists. O’Neil also set an MHL record with nine shorthanded goals, one more than Jason Imbeault had between Truro and Miramichi in 2019-20.

He was named the Top Forward in January and was on the Eastlink South Team of the Week four times. O’Neil was also named the recipient of the 2024-25 Character Player of the Year, as voted on by GMs and coaches around the league.
