Trenton, ON (November 20, 2018) – The MHL Eastlink South team completed round robin action at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens in Trenton, Ontario with a 2-1 win over the OJHL Oates squad on Tuesday.

The OJHL side opened the scoring at 9:22 of the 1st period as Andrew Rinaldi beat Truro Bearcats goaltender Alec MacDonald. The MHL South would even things up under three minutes later as Alex Wynter of the Amherst Ramblers banked the puck off an OJHL player into the net for an unassisted goal.

Tyler Caseley of the Yarmouth Mariners relieved MacDonald in the MHL goal to start the second period and made a number of key saves to keep the game tied as both teams settled in. Each team had powerplay chances in the final frame, but couldn’t convert.

Then in the final minute, despite the 1-1 score, the OJHL pulled their goaltender. Logan Timmons of the Yarmouth Mariners scored to give the MHL a 2-1 lead and the win. The assists went to Yarmouth’s Noah McMullin and Truro’s Jack McGovern.

The win gave the MHL South a 1-1-1 record for the tournament and a third place finish in the group. Only the winners of each group and a wild card team make the semifinals on Wednesday. On Monday, the team lost 2-1 in a shootout to the NOJHL West and 3-1 to OJHL Nieuwendyk.
