Edmundston double up Chaleur to take series opener
The Edmundston Blizzard scored four goals in the first period en route to a 6-3 win over the Chaleur Lightning for a 1-0 lead in the Eastlink North Division Final.
The Blizzard opened the scoring at 2:24 as William Labranche scored his fifth goal of the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs. Émile Fournier doubled the lead at 6:23 on the powerplay, followed by Darien Thomson’s first goal of the playoffs at 14:39 to make it a 3-0 Edmundston lead. Carter Bromley got Chaleur on the board at 18:10, but Noah Larochelle put the Blizzard ahead 4-1 with a goal just 39 seconds later, which chased Lightning goaltender Jack Flanagan from goal.
In the 2nd period, Easton Adrian scored for Chaleur at 3:38 to cut the lead to 4-2. Thomson potted his second goal of the game at 5:30 on the powerplay to extend the lead for Edmundston, and Lucas Fortin scored at 14:42 to make it a 6-2 lead.
Bromley scored his second goal of the night at 12:15 of the 3rd period, but Chaleur were unable to get any closer as Edmundston closed out the victory at Centre Jean Daigle.
Cedric Massé made 18 saves for the victory. Flanagan stopped eight of twelve shots for Chaleur, while George Foti stopped 30 shots in relief.
