Former Mariners’ forward Johnson commits to Lawrence University

The Lawrence University Vikings have announced that former Yarmouth Mariners forward Ethan Johnson has committed to its NCAA Division III program.

Johnson, from Quispamsis, N.B., was drafted in the 4th round, 71st overall, by the Edmundston Blizzard in the 2020 MHL Entry Draft. He played fifteen games in his rookie season of 2020-21, picking up five assists for the Blizzard. In 2021-22, Johnson had five goals and 24 assists in 33 games for Edmundston. He was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week once during the season. In four playoff games, Johnson had one goal.

After a trade to Sherwood Park in the AJHL that off-season, Johnson would return to the MHL following the trade deadline with Grand Falls. He closed out the 2022-23 season with the Rapids playing in 23 games with four goals and 21 assists. Johnson played a full season with Grand Falls in 2023-24 and was second on the team in scoring with 47 points as he collected fifteen goals and 32 assists.

Johnson was traded to the AJHL for a second time in the off-season as he went to the Drumheller Dragons, but played only one game with the team in 2024-25 before being acquired by Yarmouth at the start of October. Johnson had four goals and nine assists in 26 games with the Mariners and was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once.

The MHL congratulates Johnson on his post-secondary commitment.
