Former Western Capital Spence named QMJHL’s defensive rookie of the year

Former Summerside Western Capitals defenceman Jordan Spence has been named the winner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Raymond-LagacĂ© trophy as defensive rookie of the year.

The 18-year-old posted six goals, 43 assists, and a plus/minus of +11 in 68 games with the Moncton Wildcats. Spence was drafted in the 2nd round, 20th overall, in 2018 by Moncton.

Spence was named the Maritime Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year in 2017-18 and also made the Rookie All-Star Team on the blueline after posting 13 goals and 39 assists in 50 games. He added 4 goals and 13 assists in 12 playoff games for Summerside.
