Former Western Capital Spence wins QMJHL Rookie of the Year

Former Summerside Western Capitals defenceman Jordan Spence has been named the winner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Rookie of the Year Award. He was also named the the league’s Rookie All-Star Team.

Spence, who started the season as a 17-year-old, posted six goals, 43 assists, and a plus/minus of +11 in 68 games with the Moncton Wildcats. His assists total and total of 49 points led all QMJHL rookies. Spence was drafted in the 2nd round, 20th overall, in 2018 by Moncton.

Spence was named the Maritime Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year in 2017-18 and also made the Rookie All-Star Team on the blueline after posting 13 goals and 39 assists in 50 games. He added 4 goals and 13 assists in 12 playoff games for Summerside.
