The Yarmouth Mariners are making their way back to Nova Scotia with home ice in the 2018 MHL Final.
Campbell Balk provided the lone goal of the game and Leif Hertz stopped 22 shots he faced as the Mariners tied the best of seven championship final at one game each with a 1-0 victory over the Edmundston Blizzard before a sold out crowd at the Centre Jean-Daigle last night. Balk’s goal, his first of the postseason, came at the 1:35 mark of the second period. Aaron Maillet was credited with the lone assist on the play. It was the third straight game in which the Mariners have scored first and on this night, it was all they required as Hertz was named the game’s first star after warning his second shutout of the 2018 playoffs. Francis Asselin made 27 saves and earned the second star of the game for the Blizzard, who were shut out for the first time since January 25th .
The scene now shifts to Yarmouth, where the Mariners will host Games 3 and 4 of the MHL Final on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Game 3 will begin at 7:00PM while Game 4 takes place at 7:30PM. Both games will be available for viewing online at mhl.hockeytv.com.

Cette fois, les Mariners de Yarmouth ont pris leur revanche en signant un gain de 1 à 0 contre le Blizzard d’Edmundston devant une salle comble au Centre Jean-Daigle. Les Mariners nivèlent ainsi la série finale 4 de 7 de la Ligue de hockey junior A des Maritimes, 1-1.
Les deux équipes se donnent rendez-vous en territoire néo-écossais jeudi et vendredi prochain.
Une maladresse en défensive du Blizzard a pavé la voie au seul but de la rencontre à 1:35 du deuxième tiers. Aaron Maillet a coupé une passe pour remettre à Campbell Balk qui filait seul vers le filet pour déjouer le gardien Francis Asselin
Les Mariners ont appliqué de la pression constante pendant 60 minutes, donnant du fil à retordre aux défenseurs et à la relance de l’attaque des joueurs du Blizzard. Yarmouth a dominé au chapitre des tirs pour un deuxième match de suite, tirant 28 fois contre la cage de Francis Asselin. Leif Hertz, qui a mérité la première étoile, de la rencontre, a récolté le blanchissage en fermant la porte devant 22 lancers.
Asselin (2e) et Balk (3e) ont été crédités des deux autres étoiles.
