Notes

    • Surprisingly, this is the first playoff matchup between these two rivals since the 2014-15 season when Truro beat Pictou County in six games in the Eastlink South Divison Semi-Finals on their way to a loss in the league championship to Dieppe.
    • The teams haven’t played each other since January 2nd and both made changes at the trade deadline. Truro added both of their current goaltenders after that last meeting and forwards Eli Baillargeon, Isaac Arsenault, and Ben De Jonge. Pictou County made one trade, adding goaltender Thomas Fontaine from Yarmouth.
    • In the last round against Amherst, Truro were 4-0-0 when scoring the first goal. They also showed resiliency, coming back from multiple goal deficits three times and ultimately winning two of those games. Pictou County were 3-1-0 when scoring first against Summerside.
    • The old saying goes “You can’t stop him. You can only hope to contain him.” and that applies to Pictou County’s Lucas Canning. The former Bearcats draft pick torched his former team this season, scoring ten of his league-leading 53 goals against Truro. Canning was one of six players to score six times in the opening round of the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs.
    • Eli Baillargeon was another one of those players to score six goals in the first round. He had four multi-point games, including a hat trick in a Game 2 win. The rest of the top line did damage as well against Amherst, as captain Zachary Marquis had four goals and six assists, while Jake Todd had four goals and seven assists.
    • Pictou County has a league-best 31.6% powerplay in the playoffs after going 6 for 19 against Summerside, up from their 28.2% conversion rate in the regular season. They were 8 for 29 (27.6%) in the regular season against Truro. The Bearcats were 4 for 22 (18.2%) against Amherst after finishing the regular season with the second-worst powerplay at 17.1%. In the regular season, Truro were 9 for 30 (30.0%) against the Crushers.
