Former Dieppe Commandos forward Mika Cyr of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus has been named the 2025-26 U SPORTS men’s hockey Player of the Year. Cyr was recognized yesterday morning at the All-Canadian Breakfast in Halifax, N.S., host of the 2026 U SPORTS University Cup.
Cyr played 28 games with the Commandos during the 2015-16 season as a 16-year-old with nine goals and eight assists. He added seven goals and five assists in nineteen playoff games to finish fifth in team scoring, as Dieppe lost in six games to the Pictou County Weeks Crushers in what was then called the Kent Cup Championship. He spent the next four seasons with the Moncton Wildcats, tallying 96 goals and 90 assists in 210 games, followed by five years with the Aigles Bleus. This season, Cyr led the Aigles Bleus in scoring 39 points (19 goals, 20 assists), which was tied for eighth-place nationally
Also honoured yesterday was Derek Cormier, the fourth-year coach of the Aigles Bleus men’s hockey team who won the Coach of the Year Award. Cormier played three seasons with the Moncton franchise in the MHL between 1990 and 1993, with 100 goals and 139 assists. He had 53 goals and 68 assists in 47 games in 1992-93 and was named the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Player of the Year. In 2025-26, Cormier led the Aigles Bleus to a 19-9-1-1 regular season record, second place in the conference standings, and a bye to the first round of the playoffs as Moncton advanced to the conference finals.
Finally, Jeremy D’Astous was named a member of the All-Rookie Team and was a candidate for Rookie of the Year Award after tallying eleven goals and 21 assists in 29 games for the Aigles Bleus. D’Astous split the 2024-25 season between Grand Falls and Edmundston, with 30 goals and 52 assists for 82 points in 44 games. He finished second on Edmundston in scoring, but had the highest points per game average in the MHL. He was named to the Eastlink North All-Star Team for his efforts.
The MHL congratulates Cyr, Cormier, and D’Astous for their awards and recognition.
