The Windsor Royals won the first ever league title for the 1967-68 season in what was then called the Metro Valley Junior Hockey League (MVJHL). After a five-game victory over the former Truro Bearcats franchise for the Mainland Junior B championship, the Royals lost to the Strait Pirates in five games for the provincial Junior B championship.
Over the years, the league evolved into a Junior a league in 1978, changing names to the Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MJAHL) in 1991 and then to what we now call the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) in 2010.
