Former Grand Falls Rapids’ standout forward Ben Diamond has committed to play next season at Ontario Tech University of the Ontario University Athletics Conference.
Last season, Diamond led the Rapids with 34 goals including 3 shorthanded tallies, leading his team in that department. He finished second in points with 67 points while earning 33 assists.
A 2002-born player, Diamond was a key player for the Rapids in many facets of the game, including at the faceoff circle where he particularly excelled.
As a member of the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, he will now join former Rapids’ forward Drew Toner who played last season with the team based in Oshawa, Ontario.
Rapids’ head coach Greg Leland is very pleased to see Diamond pursue this next chapter of his hockey career. “We are very pleased and excited to see that Ben will be prolonging his career as a student/athlete at Ontario Tech University,” mentions Leland. “Junior hockey plays a role in the development of a player/person and we are happy for Ben that he will be able to start his next chapter in his pursuit of excellence. Coach Hodgins and I have a relationship based on mutual respect and we are more than happy to send student/athletes his way.”
The Rapids’ organization, as well as the community and its fans, would like to wish good luck to Ben in his future hockey career.

BEN DIAMOND SE JOINT À L’UNIVERSITÉ ONTARIO TECH
Ben Diamond, l’ancien porte-couleurs des Rapides de Grand-Sault, évoluera lors de la prochaine saison avec la formation de l’Université Ontario Tech, membre de la conférence Ontario University Athletics.
La saison dernière avec les Rapides, Diamond a terminé au premier rang chez les meilleurs francs-tireurs de son équipe avec 34 buts, tout en terminant au premier échelon pour les filets inscrits en désavantage numérique avec 3. Il a terminé au second rang pour les points accumulés avec 67, se méritant ainsi 33 mentions d’assistance.
Née en 2002, Diamond a été un joueur de premier plan chez les Rapides lors de la dernière campagne, et ce, sur plusieurs facettes du jeu. Il était d’ailleurs excellent lors des mises en jeu, remportant la majorité de ces confrontations à cet égard.
Avec sa nouvelle formation des Ridgebacks de Ontario Tech, Diamond se joint désormais à un ancien porte-couleurs des Rapides, soit Drew Toner, qui a disputé la dernière campagne avec cette formation qui évolue à Oshawa en Ontario.
L’entraîneur-chef des Rapides, Greg Leland, est très heureux de voir son ancien joueur d’avant poursuivre sa carrière en tant qu’étudiant/athlète :
« Nous sommes très contents et excités que Ben puisse avoir l’opportunité de poursuivre sa carrière en tant que joueur/étudiant à l’Université Ontario Tech », mentionne Leland.
« Le hockey junior joue un rôle important auprès du développement d’un joueur et d’un individu et nous sommes heureux que Ben puisse poursuivre le prochain chapitre de sa carrière vers l’excellence. L’entraîneur Hodgins et moi-même formons une bonne relation de respect et nous sommes assurés que Ben est entre de bonnes mains. »
L’organisation des Rapides, ainsi que la communauté et les partisans, désirent souhaiter la meilleure des chances à Ben dans sa future carrière de hockey.
