Rapids Building From Within
With the departure of Head Coach Brad MacKenzie to the Halifax Mooseheads, the Grand Falls Rapids had to look no further than within the organization to continue the leadership of the hockey team.
Nick Tremere has been promoted to Head Coach and Morgan MacDonald will continue in an expanded role as assistant coach.
Nick Tremere, a native of Borden, PEI, played three seasons with the organization from 2008 – 2010 when the team was in Woodstock as the Slammers before moving on to Royal Military College and CIS hockey. At the conclusion of his playing days Nick returned to Carleton County and became an assistant coach with the Slammers for a season before making the move to Grand Falls and continuing his role as an assistant coach in Grand Falls for the past 3 seasons.
Morgan MacDonald, a native of Little Pond, PEI, played three seasons at Appleby College in Ontario before joining the Summerside Capitals for three seasons in the MHL. Morgan has also worked internationally with the Andrew’s Hockey Growth Program and joined the Rapids as part of Brad Mackenzie’s staff.
General Manager Danny Braun stated, “I have known Nick for some time now with our time in Woodstock and now with Grand Falls. He has earned this opportunity. He is a student of the game, has a great work ethic, knows what it takes to win and is passionate about the game and how it should be played. He and Morgan have been instrumental in establishing the program we have in place today. Together they will continue to grow that program both on and off the ice and our entire organization is pleased and confident that we will continue to see good things in the future for the Rapids”.
LES RAPIDES BÂTISSENT À L’INTÉRIEUR DE L’ORGANISATION
Avec le départ pour Halifax de l’entraîneur-chef Brad Mackenzie, les Rapides de Grand-Sault n’ont pas eu à regarder très loin pour trouver un successeur derrière le banc. En effet, c’est directement auprès de l’organisation que l’on a opté pour poursuivre le travail de leadership au niveau de la formation.
Nick Tremere a en effet été promu au poste d’entraîneur-chef de l’équipe alors que Morgan MacDonald demeurera entraîneur adjoint, mais avec un rôle encore plus accru à ce niveau.
Tremere, originaire de Borden (I.P.E.), a disputé trois saisons avec l’organisation, soit de 2008 à 2010 lorsque que l’équipe se retrouvait à Woodstock. Il a ensuite joint le Royal MilitaryCollege et le circuit de hockey universitaire. Au terme de sa carrière en tant que joueur, Nick est retourné dans le comté de Carleton afin de devenir entraîneur-adjoint avec les Slammers pour la durée d’une saison avant d’occuper le même rôle auprès des Rapides lors des trois dernières campagnes.
MacDonald a disputé pour sa part trois saisons en tant que joueur avec le Collège Appleby, en Ontario, avant de se joindre aux Capitals de Summerside (LHM) pour trois saisons également. Natif de Little Pond (IPE), Morgan a également travaillé sur la scène internationale avec le Andrew’s Hockey Growth Program, tout en se joignant aux Rapides en tant qu’entraîneur-adjoint de Brad Mackenzie.
Selon le directeur gérant Danny Braun : « Jeconnais Nick depuis notre temps passé ensemble à Woodstock et maintenant à Grand-Sault, et je peux affirmer qu’il s’est mérité pleinement cette opportunité. En plus d’avoir une éthique de travail exemplaire, il sait ce que ça prend pour gagner et il est très passionné par son sport et par la façon dont on doit le jouer. Morgan et lui ont été des pièces instrumentales envers la construction du progamme que nous avons maintenant en place. Ensemble, ils vont sûrement améliorer davantage le produit à tous les niveaux et notre organisation est heureuse et confiante que nous allons continuer de voir de très belles choses dans le futur avec les Rapides. »
