Red Wings’ Melikov commits to TMU Bold

The Fredericton Red Wings have announced that forward Slava Melikov has committed to Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold.

The 20-year-old from Moscow, Russia played 130 games over three seasons in Fredericton with 81 goals and 105 assists. Meikov joined the Red Wings ahead of the 2021-22 season and finished second in rookie scoring with 38 points in 36 games; which placed him second in team scoring. Melikov’s twenty goals were second among rookies to 23 for Pictou County’s Bryson Boudreau. His eighteen assists were tied for second-most among rookies, trailing teammate Jadon Reimer who had 22. Melikov was named to the Rookie All-Star Team, was Rookie of the Month for September, and was named an honourable mention for the award in December. He was also chosen on one occasion for the Eastlink North Team of the Week. During the playoffs, Melikov had three goals and two assists in eight games.

Melikov took another step forward offensively in 2022-23 for Fredericton, finishing tied for thirteenth in league scoring with 69 points in 46 games. His 31 goals and 38 assists led the Red Wings, as did his twenty powerplay points. He was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week twice.

In 2023-24, Melikov finished fourth in league scoring with 79 points in 49 games. He was fourth in the MHL with 49 assists and second on the Red Wings with 30 goals. He was an honourable mention for Top Forward in November and was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week four times. During the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, Melikov had one assist in three games.
