EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick (May 19, 2021) – The Nipissing University Lakers have acquired forward Cole Stewart who, instead of playing his final junior season in 2021-2022 with the Edmundston Blizzard, will make the jump directly to the Ontario University Athletics circuit (OUA) next September.
The 19-year-old played 7 games with the Blizzard, from March 10 to March 21. He had 2 goals and 4 assists.
Moncton native Stewart, 5’11 “, was the Blizzard’s second pick in the 2018 MHL Draft in Berwick, NS. He has played in the QMJHL since the 2017-2018 season until 2020-2021. In 93 games with Halifax, Acadie-Bathurst and Chicoutimi, he accumulated 5 goals and 10 assists. He started his junior career in 2017 with the Miramichi Timberwolves where he had 3 goals and 5 assists in 17 games.
Stewart will join former Blizzard star goaltender Francis Asselin, who has lined up with the Lakers since the 2019-20 season. Nipissing University is located in North Bay, an Ontario city of about 50,000 inhabitants, 13 percent of whom speak French as their mother-tongue (6,645 people) according to the latest Statistics Canada census.
Due to the pandemic, OAU teams have not been able to play a single game in 2020-2021.

Cole Stewart poursuivra sa carrière avec la Nipissing University
EDMUNDSTON, Nouveau-Brunswick (19 mai 2021) – Les Lakers de la Nipissing University ont fait l’acquisition de l’attaquant Cole Stewart qui, au lieu de jouer sa dernière saison junior en 2021-2022 avec le Blizzard d’Edmundston, fera le saut directement dans le circuit de la Ontario University Athletics (OUA) en septembre prochain.
Le joueur de 19 ans a disputé 7 rencontres avec le Blizzard, du 10 mars au 21 mars dernier. Il a récolté 2 buts et 4 passes.
Natif de Moncton, Stewart, 5’11’’, a été le deuxième choix du Blizzard au repêchage de la LHM en 2018 à Berwick, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Il a évolué dans la LHJMQ depuis la saison 2017-2018 jusqu’en 2020-2021. En 93 rencontres avec Halifax, Acadie-Bathurst et Chicoutimi, il a accumulé 5 buts et 10 passes. Il avait amorcé sa carrière junior en 2017 avec les Timberwolves de Miramichi où il avait récolté 3 buts et 5 passes en 17 parties.
Stewart ira rejoindre l’ancien gardien étoile du Blizzard, Francis Asselin, qui s’aligne avec les Lakers depuis la saison 2019-2020.
