Stewart cousins commit to St. FX for 2022-23

St. Francis Xavier University Athletics have announced that forward Jacob Stewart of the Summerside Western Capitals and defenseman Sean Stewart of the Pictou County Weeks Crushers have both committed to the U SPORTS program for 2022-23.

Sean Stewart was drafted in the 1st Round, 4th overall, in the 2018 MHL Entry Draft. He played four games in the 2017-18 season before spending the next two and a half seasons in the QMJHL with Moncton. As a member of the Wildcats, Sean posted four goals and seventeen assists in 132 games. He was traded to Charlottetown in mid-2020-21, where he had one assist in 22 regular season games and one assist in eight playoff games.

Sean played a few games with Drummondville and Rouyn-Noranda before rejoining the Crushers during the 2021-22 and served as team captain, with five goals and seven assists in 27 games. Stewart was named a Player of the Week twice and was voted to the Eastlink South All-Star team.

Jacob Stewart also started his MHL career with the Crushers, playing 39 games in the 2017-18 season with six goals and eight assists before joining his cousin in Moncton. Jacob stayed with the QMJHL club until later in the 2021-22 season when he was acquired by the Summerside Western Capitals ahead of the trade deadline. In Summerside, Jacob had three goals and six assists in eleven regular season games. He led all players with thirteen goals in the Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs and added six assists in fourteen games to finish tied for second in playoff scoring as Summerside captured the league title.
