Summerside beat Amherst to force Game 7 in Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs

Western Capitals to host Game 7 after 9-3 win in Amherst

The Summerside Western Capitals avoided elimination in their Eastlink South Division Semi-Final with a 9-3 win over the Ramblers at Amherst Stadium on Thursday.

Summerside struck early and often in Game 6, as Brett Arsenault opened the scoring at 1:23 of the 1st period, followed by Brennan Murphy at 8:44 and Alexandre Guy at 9:50. Christian White got Amherst on the board at 13:02, but Elliott Mullen scored on the powerplay at 17:29 to make it a 4-1 lead for the visitors. Elliot Wright scored at 19:49 for Amherst to cut the lead to 4-2 after the opening 20 minutes.

The Western Capitals built on their lead in the 2nd period. Owen MacPherson scored at 7:44, followed by the second goals of the night for Arsenault and Mullen at 9:34 and then 11:26 on the powerplay, respectively, for a 7-2 lead. That ended the night for Amherst goaltender Hudson Bradley. Evan Nicholson made it 7-3 with a goal for the Ramblers at 12:07.

Guy got his second goal of the game at 2:11 of the 3rd period and Ryder Howatt rounded out the scoring at 18:49 for a 9-3 win.

Kolten Bourret made 30 saves for the win, while Brandon Lavoie stopped eighteen of 20 shots in relief for Amherst. Game 7 is Saturday night in Summerside.
