Two weeks remain before the Christmas Break and Week 14 features 15 games over four days. Summerside (23-3-0-1) enters this week’s action ranked 3rd in the CJHL’s newest national rankings and are on a 15-0-0-1 streak. Two Western Capitals are in Dawson Creek, B.C. as part of Team Canada East in the World Junior A Challenge, alongside Campbellton (12-10-3-0) GM/Head Coach Greg Leland as an Assistant Coach and Valley (7-20-1-0) Trainer Mark Francisco as an Equipment Manager.
The action kicks off with three games on Thursday. Summerside hit the road for their lone visit to New Glasgow to play Pictou County (15-8-1-0). The Crushers are coming off a third period, come-from-behind overtime win in Truro (8-10-3-4) followed by a big 6-2 win in Yarmouth (16-9-2-1). The Western Capitals edged the Crushers 2-1 back on October 5th in Summerside. South Shore (15-11-1-1) are trying to right the ship as they head to Fredericton (14-10-1-0). The Lumberjacks are 0-7-1-0 in their past eight games and could end the weekend in fourth place in the Eastlink South. The Red Wings played three games in three nights last week, sandwiching wins over Miramichi (8-15-3-1) and Grand Falls (10-13-2-1) around a loss to Summerside. Finally, Edmundston (15-6-1-3) are on the road to face the Timberwolves. The Blizzard are 2-0-1-3 in their past six games and suffered shootout losses to Grand Falls and Summerside last weekend. Miramichi will be looking for their first win over Edmundston, having dropped the first two meetings. The teams will play five times between now and the end of January.
Three more games are on tap on Friday. Yarmouth begins a weekend road trip with their first stop of the season in Truro. The Bearcats have entered the third period with a 2-0 lead in each of their last three games, but two have ended in overtime losses. The Mariners have taken over first place in the Eastlink South, with the loss to the Crushers mentioned above snapping a three-game win streak. Pictou heads to Valley for the first of a home and home set this weekend. Their last meeting was a 3-2 overtime win for the Crushers on November 16th. South Shore head to New Brunswick and kick off a road trip in Grand Falls. The Lumberjacks beat the Rapids 5-2 in Bridgewater last month.
All but two teams hit the ice on Saturday. South Shore wraps up a tough stretch with a game in Edmundston, with a chance to avenge a 6-2 loss to the Blizzard last month. Valley and Pictou County meet again, this time in New Glasgow. Yarmouth heads to Amherst (14-11-1-0), having won all four meetings this season. Amherst won three straight overtime games to end November, which was followed by a loss to the Crushers and a win over South Shore in their lone game last weekend. Shifting to the Eastlink North, Miramichi heads to Summerside for their fifth meeting of the season. The Timberwolves have lost all four, but have been able to score on the Western Capitals by putting four goals on the board in each game. Then, the Rapids head to Grant-Harvey Centre to play the Red Wings. Fredericton has three wins on four games between the two sides, including a 4-2 win last weekend in Grand Falls.
The week ends with a busy Sunday schedule as eight teams are in action. The MHL Game of the Week, free to watch on HockeyTV, has the Timberwolves in Campbellton. It’s Campbellton’s lone game of the week, and they’ve had plenty of rest since an 11-1 win over Valley last Friday. The Tigers picked up a 4-2 win over Miramichi just two weeks ago. Elsewhere, Edmundston and Grand Falls renew their rivalry at the E. & P. Sénéchal Centre, Amherst make their lone trip of the season to Fredericton, and Truro is off to Berwick to play Valley in a must-win game for both teams.
All games are available on HockeyTV.
