The Grand Falls Rapids have announced that forward Drew Toner has committed to Norwich University, an NCAA Division III school, for the 2021-22 season.
The 20-year-old from Grand Falls, N.B. began his MHL career with the Campbellton Tigers in 2017-18, where he had six goals and thirteen assists in 49 games. He added two assists in five games for the Tigers in the 2018 MHL Cup Playoffs. The following season, Toner had seven goals and fifteen assists in 41 games. He scored five goals to go with three assists during the Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs as the Tigers advanced to the league final before falling to Yarmouth.
That off-season, Toner was acquired by his hometown Rapids. He finished fifth in team scoring in 2019-20 with thirteen goals and seventeen assists in 48 games. He was named the 2019-20 winner of the Bob Boucher Hockey Assistance Fund Scholarship. During the 2020-21 season, Toner had the seventh-best points-per-game average in the MHL, with eleven goals and 25 assists in just 23 games, as he tied for the team scoring lead. Toner was named an All-Star at right wing and a Player of the Week four times.
