Week 6 of the MHL season begins on Thursday

(Campbellton Tigers)

With a busy Thanksgiving weekend schedule in the rear-view mirror, the MHL season is nearly one-fifth of the way in the books. All but three teams have played double-digit games to this point.

The action begins Thursday with a pair of games. The Pictou County Weeks Crushers (4-4-0-0) have a busy week ahead with three games in three days, starting things off at home against the Valley Wildcats (3-7-0-0). The Crushers split their games last week, picking up a 4-2 win over Truro (2-6-0-3) before dropping a 3-2 decision to South Shore (8-3-0-0). The Wildcats picked up back to back wins over Yarmouth (7-3-2-0) and Grand Falls (2-6-2-0) before losing 5-3 to Amherst (5-4-1-0). On October 3rd, the Crushers downed the Wildcats 5-2 on home ice. Next, the Fredericton Red Wings (6-4-0-0) look to continue their momentum following a 7-4 win over the Rapids on Sunday as they square off against the Timberwolves (2-6-1-0). Their previous meeting was a 4-3 overtime win by the Red Wings in Miramichi.

Four games are on tap on Friday, including the MHL Game of the Week as the Summerside Western Capitals (8-3-0-0) visit the Truro Bearcats. Summerside are coming off big wins over South Shore and Edmundston (8-2-0-0) before dropping a 4-3 game in Campbellton (5-2-1-0) on Monday. After the loss to the Crushers last Thursday, Truro picked up a 5-2 win on home ice against the Lumberjacks, but fell 4-1 in Yarmouth the following night. Catch the game for free on HockeyTV.

Elsewhere, the Mariners are on a tour of New Brunswick as they begin with a game in Campbellton in a rematch of last season’s Canadian Tire Cup Final. The Tigers are happy to finally be able to play on home ice following the opening 3-0 win over Fredericton last Friday before the aforementioned win over Summerside. In between those results, the Tigers lost 5-4 in Miramichi. Yarmouth bounced back from the loss to Valley with wins over Amherst and Truro. The Crushers travel to Bridgewater to face South Shore. The Lumberjacks have won both meetings this season by a 3-2 score, and there’s no reason to believe this matchup will be anything but another close score. Wrapping up the night, Grand Falls are home to Miramichi. Their first game was a thrilling 4-3 win by the Timberwolves in overtime.

Saturday night will be busy with five games scheduled. Yarmouth makes their way to Miramichi, Truro host the Crushers for the first time this season, Valley look to avenge a pair of losses to the Lumberjacks as they host South Shore, and Fredericton make their only visit of the season to Amherst. In a big Eastlink North tilt, Campbellton hit the road to play Summerside in a quick rematch following the game on Monday.

The week’s schedule wraps up Sunday with two divisional games. The Eastlink South will feature Amherst on the road against Valley, while Grand Falls makes the quick trip to Edmundston to face the Blizzard at Centre Jean Daigle.

All games are available on HockeyTV.
