The Lakehead University Thunderwolves have announced that Summerside Western Capitals’ goaltender Kolton Bourret has committed to their program for next season.
The 21-year-old from Thunder Bay, Ontario played his first game for the Western Capitals on November 6th, posting a record of 15-5-0-1 and one shutout in 22 regular season games. His 2.70 goals against average was second-best in the MHL this season, just behind Truro’s Louca Connolly (2.69). Bourret was also tied for the second-best save percentage at .908, trailing only Edmundston’s Cedric Massé (.912). He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once during the season and was an Honourable Mention for Top Goaltender in November.
In the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, Bourret went 7-4-2 with a 1.85 goals against average and a .929 save percentage in helping the Western Capitals push the Eastlink South Division Final to seven games against Truro. At the Centennial Cup in Summerside, Bourret went 3-1-1 with a 2.84 goals against average and an .856 save percentage as Summerside lost in the national final to Niverville.
