Western Capitals’ Murphy commits to Maryville University

The Summerside Western Capitals have announced that forward Brennan Murphy has committed to Maryville University, a program in Missouri transitioning to NCAA Division I.

The 20-year-old from Charlottetown, P.E.I. was selected by Summerside in the 8th round, 114th overall, in the 2021 MHL Entry Draft. Over the course of his MHL career, Murphy tallied 51 goals and 52 assists in 139 regular season games, in addition to three goals and twelve assists in 37 playoff games.

He played one game during the 2022-23 season, scoring midway through the second period in a Summerside victory. Murphy became a regular on the roster during the 2023-24 season, with eighteen goals and seventeen assists in 51 games to finish seventh in rookie scoring. He led all rookies with five game-winning goals, which was near the top of the leaderboard for all skaters, and was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once. During the Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs, Murphy had two goals and six assists in seventeen games to help the Western Capitals reach the league final, where they lost to Miramichi. He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week twice.

In 2024-25, Murphy finished with nineteen goals and 23 assists in 50 games, and had one assists in five playoff games. He tallied thirteen goals and twelve assists in 37 games in 2025-26, with one goal and five assists in fourteen playoff games. Murphy was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once during the season.
