Truro defeats Edmundston 4-3 to take a 3-1 lead in the Metalfab MHL Cup Final
The Truro Bearcats scored twice in the 1st period and twice in the second period en route to a 4-3 win in Game 4 and are closing in on their fifth MHL title.
Truro got on the board first with a goal from Nathan Curson just 1:50 into the 1st period. Charles-Éric Tremblay tied the game at 15:48 with a goal for Edmundston, but Matthew Bolduc answered under two minutes later at 17:43 to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead after the opening 20 minutes.
In the 2nd period, Truro scored two quick goals to build a 4-1 lead as Samuel Vachon found the back of the net at 2:09 and captain Liam Welsh scored at 3:07. The Blizzard fought back, however. Alexis Chénard cut the lead to 4-2 with a goal at 9:56, and Lucas Fortin fired a shot through a crowd past Bearcats goaltender Louca Connolly on the powerplay to make it 4-3.
Neither team could score in the 3rd period as they tightened up defensively, with the Blizzard outshooting Truro just 6-4 in the final frame. Truro closed out the victory and have now taken a 3-1 series lead. Connolly made 26 saves for the victory, while Cedric Massé had 19 saves in the loss.
Game 5 is back at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro on Monday night and the Metalfab MHL Cup will be in the building.
