Eastlink North lose in shootout to QJHL Perron

The Eastlink North team lost 3-2 in a shootout to the QJHL Perron squad at the Eastern Canada Cup in one of the day’s first games.

The North got on the board early with a goal from Campbellton’s Keifer Lyons at 4:55 of the 1st period, with assists from teammate Justin David and the Red Wings’ Manix Sarrasin. They would double that lead at 11:21 of the period with a powerplay goal from Miramichi’s Will Allen. Fredericton’s Cam Thomson and Campbellton’s Ryan Hackett assisted on the goal. The QJHL Perron team was able to cut the lead to 2-1 with 28 seconds to go in the 1st period. Shots were 14-13 for the North to that point.

In the 2nd period, the QJHL tied the game with another late goal, this time at 18:12, which forced the game to a shootout. Each team scored once in the first round of three shooters, but the QJHL team scored the winner with their fourth shooter for the comeback victory. Shots were 27-25 for the Eastlink North in the game, with Grand Falls’ Adam Lecours making 23 saves in regulation.

GAME SUMMARY

The Eastlink North have now lost both of their games in the tournament in a shootout and sit in fourth place in their pool, midway through the Eastern Canada Cup. They now prepare to face the OJHL Hawerchuk squad that sit atop the pool with two regulation victories. That game can be watched on FloHockey at 6:20 p.m. Atlantic.
