The Grand Falls Rapids have announced that GREG LELAND will be the team’s new head coach heading into the 2022-2023 season. Leland was the assistant coach of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL for the last two campaigns. He succeeds Nick Tremere who was behind the bench last season for the Rapids after taking over the head coaching position from Brad MacKenzie.
Leland, a Quispamsis native, has a very impressive resumé as a high-level hockey coach. From 2007 to 2015, he was a member of the Saint John SeaDogs organization as an assistant coach, in which he was part of Gerard Gallant’s two Presidents Cup teams along with a Memorial Cup championship in 2011.
This is not his first stint in the Maritime Junior hockey League as he was at the helm of the Campbellton Tigers from 2016 to 2020 where he was the GM/Head Coach, in which he was named Coach of the Year in the 2018-2019 season.
He was also an Assistant Coach with Team Canada East who captured a silver medal at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, BC.
Leland has also served as Head Coach for Team Atlantic on two occasions at the World U17 Challenge in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
Leland was a successful head coach at the Midget AAA level, a position he held with Saint John from 1995 to 2007. He was also a volunteer assistant coach with the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League during the 2001-2002 season.
The Rapids organization has stated that Leland will begin his duties in late August, which will coincide with the start of the 2022-2023 season.

GREG LELAND DEVIENT LE NOUVEL ENTRAÎNEUR-CHEF DES RAPIDES
Les Rapides de Grand-Sault ont fait l’annonce de leur nouvel entraîneur-chef en vue de la saison 2022-2023. Il s’agit de GREG LELAND qui occupait le poste d’entraîneur adjoint avec le Titan d’Acadie Bathurst (LHJMQ) lors des deux dernières campagnes.
Leland, qui possède une feuille de route fort impressionnante dans le domaine du hockey de haut niveau, devient ainsi le quatrième entraîneur-chef de l’histoire des Rapides. Il succède ainsi à Nick Tremere qui avait occupé le poste la saison dernière après avoir pris la relève de Brad Mackenzie.
Notons que de 2007 à 2015, Leland faisait partie de l’organisation des SeaDogs de St-Jean à titre d’entraîneur-adjoint alors qu’il était membre de l’équipe de Gérard Gallant, gagnante de deux Coupes du Président et de la Coupe Mémorial en 2011.Leland, natif de Quispamsis, n’en est pas à sa première fonction dans la Ligue junior des Maritimes. En effet, il était à la barre des Tigres de Campbellton de 2016 à 2020 et a occupé la fonction de directeur gérant et entraîneur avec cette organisation. Il a d’ailleurs remporté le prix d’entraineur de l’année lors de la campagne 2018-2019.
En 2019, il agissait à titre d’entraîneur-adjoint avec Équipe Canada Est, récipiendaire de la médaille d’argent lors du Challenge Mondial Junior A disputé à Dawson Creek, en Colombie-Britannique.
Leland a aussi été entraîneur-chef d’Équipe Atlantique lors des Championnats Mondiaux des U17, et ce, en a deux occasions soit à Winnipeg et Portage la Prairie au Manitoba.
Ajoutons que ce dernier a aussi été entraîneur-chef avec St-John au niveau Midget AAA, soit de 1995 à 2007, en plus d’occuper la fonction d’adjoint bénévole avec la formation des Flames de St.John dans la Ligue Américaine en 2001-2002.
La direction des Rapides a laissé savoir que Leland sera en poste à partir de la fin août lorsque s’entamera le début de saison dans la Ligue junior A des Maritimes.
