Mariners’ Mayne commits to Nipissing University Lakers

The Nipissing University Lakers have announced that Yarmouth Mariners forward Reilly Mayne has committed to their program for the 2023-24 season.

The 21-year-old from Hopeall, Newfoundland was selected by the Mariners with the second-to-last pick, 119th overall, in the 2019 MHL Entry Draft. In four seasons with Yarmouth, Mayne tallied 74 goals and 64 assists in 161 regular season games to go with thirteen goals and thirteen assists in 26 playoff games.

In his rookie season of 2019-20, Mayne had six goals and two assists in 39 games for Yarmouth. He followed that up in 2020-21 with ten goals and seven assists in 32 games as well as three goals and two assists during the Canadian Tire Cup Playoff Round-Robin. He was named to the Eastlink South Players of the Week once during the season.

Mayne finished second in team scoring in 2021-22 with a team-leading 29 goals to go with eighteen assists in 38 games. In the playoffs, he had one goal and two assists in six games as Yarmouth. He was twice named to the Eastlink South Players of the Week.

Mayne became an All-Star in 2022-23, helping Yarmouth capture the Metalfab MHL Cup. His 29 goals, which again led the team, and 37 assists placed him second in team scoring for the season and he was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once. During Yarmouth’s playoff run, Mayne tied for second in scoring with eighteen points as he collected nine goals and nine assists in twelve games.
