FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Truro, N.S. (November 5th, 2025) – Players from the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) will host some of the best of the Ligue de hockey junior AAA du Québec (LHJAAAQ) in the East Coast Prospects Showcase at the Pictou County Wellness Centre on Wednesday, November 5th at 7:30 p.m.
This event will help Hockey Canada’s national team staff identify eligible players from these two Junior A leagues to represent Team Canada at the World Junior A Challenge, scheduled for Trois-Rivieres, QC, from December 7th to 13th. Justin Blackmore, General Manager of the Miramichi Timberwolves, was recently named director of operations for Canada East, while Summerside Western Capitals Head Coach Billy McGuigan was named an associate coach.
Players involved will also have the opportunity to play in front of a large scouting contingent that is in nearby Truro, N.S., for the Under-17 World Challenge this week. This will include NHL Scouting representation from all 32 NHL teams, international federations, NCAA, USports, and the CHL.
Ten of the MHL’s twelve teams will be represented at this event. For hometown fans, two players from the Weeks Crushers were named to the team, while Pictou County’s Garrett Lambke will be on the coaching staff. Players from eight of the LHJAAAQ’s thirteen teams will be on hand for the Showcase, including six from Collège-Français Longueuil, the number one-ranked team in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).
The game will be broadcast on Eastlink Community TV in Nova Scotia and P.E.I., and streamed live on FloHockey. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketpro.ca or the Pictou County Wellness Centre box office.
