Truro, N.S. (March 22, 2022) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased to announce Yannic Bastarache of the Grand Falls Rapids is the 2022-23 Character Player of the Year.
The 21-year-old from Bouctouche, N.B. led the Rapids in scoring with 79 points, placing him sixth in the MHL. He had the third-most powerplay assists in the league with 24, helping to place him in a tie with Edmundston’s Olivier Coulombe for the third-most powerplay points this season with 37. The Grand Falls captain was also one of only six players to score on a penalty shot.
Rapids’ Head Coach Greg Leland spoke about what Bastarache meant to the team, both on and off the ice:
“Yannic played in all situations. Although a quiet-spoken, mature, and self disciplined, his on ice performance spoke loudly. He was a calming influence within the dressing room. As a coaching staff, we bounced many things off of Yannic, as we trusted and valued his feedback. He was also front and center in many community events, especially the ones in which the players interacted with local schools. Yannic represents what we want in our players: character, integrity, and a positive contributor to both the organization as well as our neighbouring communities.”

Yannic Bastarache proclamé le joueur ayant fait preuve de la plus grande détermination en 2022-2023 dans la LHM
Truro, N.-É. (22 mars 2023) – La Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes (LHM) est heureuse d’annoncer que Yannic Bastarache, des Rapides de Grand-Sault, a été choisi comme le joueur ayant fait preuve de la plus grande détermination en 2022-2023.
L’athlète de 21 ans originaire de Bouctouche, au Nouveau-Brunswick, a mené les Rapides au chapitre des points avec 79, ce qui le place au sixième rang de la LHM. Il a obtenu le troisième plus grand nombre de passes en avantage numérique de la ligue avec 24. Il a également terminé la saison au troisième rang pour le plus grand nombre de points en avantage numérique (37), à égalité avec Olivier Coulombe. Le capitaine de Grand-Sault a également été l’un des six joueurs à marquer sur un tir de pénalité.
L’entraineur-chef des Rapides, Greg Leland, s’est exprimé sur la valeur de Bastarache pour l’équipe, tant sur la glace qu’à l’extérieur :
« Yannic a joué dans toutes les situations. Bien qu’il s’exprime calmement, qu’il soit mature et discipliné, ses performances sur la glace sont très éloquentes. Il avait une influence apaisante dans le vestiaire. En tant qu’équipe d’entraineurs, nous avons confié beaucoup de responsabilités à Yannic, car nous avions confiance en ses commentaires et nous les appréciions. Il était également au centre de nombreux évènements communautaires, en particulier ceux au cours desquels les joueurs interagissaient avec les écoles locales. Yannic représente ce que nous attendons de nos joueurs : du caractère, de l’intégrité et une contribution positive à l’organisation et aux communautés voisines.
