Niverville defeat Summerside 4-1 in Centennial Cup Final

The Niverville Nighthawks defeated the Summerside Western Capitals 4-1 to win the Centennial Cup on Sunday night in Summerside, P.E.I.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) champions got on the board first with a goal from Hayden Wheddon at 8:07 of the 1st period. Niverville went on the powerplay shortly after, but a mistake from goaltender Austin Dubinsky gave Summerside’s Jordan Shaw the tying goal at 10:09. Shots were 13-7 for the Centennial Cup hosts in the opening period.

There were no penalties called in the 2nd period, with shots even at 10-10. Wheddon gave the Nighthawks their second lead of the night with a goal at 8:48.

In the 3rd period, both teams clamped down defensively, but a rolling puck off the stick of Marlen Edwards at 14:34 put Niverville up 3-1. They would add an empty net goal from Tyler Bernier at 19:08 to make it a 4-1 win. Summerside outshot the MJHL champs 12-3 in the 3rd period and 35-20 overall.

The MHL congratulates the Western Capitals on their fantastic season, going from finishing atop the MHL standings in the regular season to being the #2 team among the 116 CJHL teams in the 2025-26 season.
