The Amherst Ramblers have announced that captain Coen Strang has committed to play for Carleton University.
The Moncton, N.B. defenseman was drafted by the Ramblers in the 6th Round, 92nd overall, in the 2020 MHL Entry Draft. After just over two seasons in the QMJHL with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Strang joined Amherst after the 2022-23 trade deadline. He finished the season with two goals and nine assists in 21 games, adding another nine assists in twelve playoff games.
In 2023-24, Strang had the fourth-most points among defensemen with 45 and was named an All-Star. His 35 assists were third among blueliners, in addition to his ten goals for the year. He had the second-most powerplay assists among defensemen at seventeen, helping to hold the second-most powerplay points with 21. Strang was also one of three defensemen with three game-winning goals. He had ten multi-point games overall, including a four-assist performance early in the season. Strang was named Top Defenseman in November and January and was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week five times.
Strang followed up that performance in 2024-25 with 47 points in 50 games, putting him third among defensemen. It was the most points for an Amherst blueliner since Jamieson Chisholm in 2003-04. He was second in the MHL with 41 assists, but led all blueliners with 21 powerplay assists. Strang tied two other defensemen for the most game-winning goals among blueliners with three. He was named an All-Star for the second season in a row, made the Eastlink South Team of the Week five times, and was the Honourable Mention for Top Defenseman in December.
The MHL congratulates Strang on his post-secondary commitment.
