South Shore, Truro hold Teddy Bear Toss events

A pair of Maritime Hockey League teams held Teddy Bear Toss events this weekend.

On Friday, the South Shore Lumberjacks got a goal against the Valley Wildcats at 7:13 from Nick Ormon, with assists to Bair Gendunov and Cody Grant, leading to 245 stuffed animals being thrown onto the ice for the 4th annual event. They were collected to support the CKBW/Salvation Army Toy Drive. Lumberjacks play-by-play announcer Mike Barkhouse had the call on HockeyTV.

Then on Sunday, the Truro Bearcats held their 6th annual Teddy Bear Toss as they took on Miramichi. Dylan Burton scored at 6:16  of the 1st period on the powerplay, with assists to Jack McGovern and Shaun Bily. The goal resulted in 319 teddy bears being tossed onto the ice, which is a record in Truro. The Bearcats partner with the Bible Hill Kinsmen for the event, and the stuffed animals will be distributed through the local Christmas Index Program. Over the six years, a total of 1493 stuffed animals have now been collected.
