Summerside’s incredible season ends with quarterfinals loss at the Centennial Cup

Estevan, Sask. – The Summerside Western Capitals dropped a 4-3 decision to Collège Français de Longueuil in the Centennial Cup quarterfinals on Friday to end their season. The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) champions went down to the wire with the LHJQ champions in the day’s last game.

Summerside struck first at 7:04 of the 1st period as Isaac Wilson put the Western Capitals on the board. A goal from Sid McNeill at 10:34 built a 2-0 lead, but Collège Français de Longueuil would tie things up before the end of the frame with a powerplay goal at 18:04 and another goal at 19:45.

Collège Français de Longueuil took a 3-2 lead early in the 2nd period with a goal at 5:47. Summerside responded minutes later as Aaron Brown scored a powerplay goal at 8:34 to make the score 3-3.

The teams continued to trade changes for the remaining second half of the quarterfinal, but Collège Français de Longueuil found the eventual winner at 9:06 of the 3rd period to take a 4-3 lead and hold on for the victory. Shots on goal for the game were 32-30 in favour of the LHJQ champions.
