Tigers’ Stanger commits to Connecticut College

The Campbellton Tigers have announced that defenseman Peter Stanger has committed to Connecticut College, an NCAA Division III program, for the 2023-24 season. The 20-year-old from Bathurst, N.B. spent three seasons in the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL), collecting 79 points in 101 regular season games as well as three assists in ten post-season games entering this year’s Metalfab MHL Cup Playoffs.

Stanger joined the Tigers for the 2020-21 season and finished eighth in rookie scoring in the abbreviated season with three goals and sixteen assists in 25 games. He was sixth in scoring among defensemen and tied for the fourth-most assists for blueliners. He had one assist in two games in the Canadian Tire Cup Playoff Round Robin. Stanger was named Top Rookie and Honourable Mention for Top Defenseman in December 2020 and was named to the Eastlink North’s Team of the Week three times that season. He was also named to the 2020-21 Rookie All-Star Team.

In 2021-22, Stanger had six goals and 21 assists in 33 games for the Tigers, along with two assists in six games in the Canadian Tire Cup Playoffs. Among defensemen, he finished fourth in scoring, fifth-in goals, and tied with teammate Zac Arsenault for the most powerplay goals. He was named to the Eastlink North’s Team of the Week twice and was the Honourable Mention for Top Defenseman in December 2021.

Stanger continued to set personal bests in scoring in 2022-23, all the while helping to lead the Tigers’ defense. He had eleven goals and 22 assists this season to finish eleventh in scoring among defenseman, and was the only blueliner to score a shorthanded goal all season. He was named the league’s Top Defenseman in November 2022, and was named to the Eastlink North’s Team of the Week once.

The MHL congratulates Stanger on his post-secondary commitment.
