The Miramichi Timberwolves are supporting a bid by the nearby villages of Blackville and Renous for the Kraft Hockeyville competition. The winner of the annual contest hosts an NHL pre-season game and wins $250,000 for rink renovations; in this case for the Tom Donovan Arena in Renous.

A ceremonial puck drop was held before the recent Miramichi/St. Stephen game. Pictured are (left to right) Harry Dunn, Timberwolves captain Elijah Francis, Dawn Dunn, Aaron Dunn, Timberwolves board member Marcia Bessette, and St. Stephen captain Michael Waugh.

The effort was launched in memory of Thomas Dunn, a 14-year-old from Blackville who was tragically killed in a dirtbike accident last year. Thomas’ parents, Dawn and Harry, and his brother Aaron were at a recent Timberwolves game for a ceremonial puck drop.

Miramichi and the St. Stephen Aces both wore stickers on their helmets with a T6 logo designed in Thomas’ honour. After the game, the Timberwolves posed with the Renous Bantam team and the banner the group has for the Hockeyville bid.

Nominations for Kraft Hockeyville close on February 10th, with judging from February 11th to March 15th, and the four finalists named March 16th.
