Update: This story originally stated Pierre-Alexandre Marion held the single-season shutout record with six for Truro in 2007-08. This has been confirmed with the Bearcats that he posted five in the regular season and one in the playoffs that year. As such, Tmej broke the record in 2017-18 and then again this season.

Summerside Western Capitals goaltender Dominik Tmej now holds the Maritime Hockey League’s single-season record for shutouts. He recorded his seventh of the season on Friday with 26 saves in a 4-0 win over the Truro Bearcats at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

This is the second time Tmej has broken the record. He set the MHL mark of six in a season in 2017-18, eclipsing the mark of five which was set by Bearcats goaltender Pierre-Alexandre Marion in 2007-08 and equaled by three others since. TmejĀ  also posted a 17-2-0-0 record last season with a 2.06 goals against average and a .941 saves percentage.

The 19-year-old from Bradenton, Florida got back to six shutouts with back to back blank sheets against Campbellton and Grand Falls to begin February, joining Pictou County’s Matt Normore at six for the season.

With Summerside having seven games to go in the regular season, Tmej also sits atop the pack with a 2.12 goals against average and a .933 save percentage. His record of 21-4-1-1 puts him in second place for wins this season behind Yarmouth’s Tyler Caseley, who has 22 in two more games played.
