United States 6, Slovakia 1 – Rath Eastlink Community Centre
- James Reeder scored a hat-trick as the United States earned its first victory of the tournament.
- Mac Swanson had three assists.
- Adam Beluško replied for Slovakia.

« Au jour 1, tout le monde avait l’air un peu nerveux, un peu désorienté, mais maintenant la chimie s’installe. Ce soir, j’ai trouvé que les gars faisaient des passes franches, attaquaient le filet et rendaient la vie difficile à notre adversaire. On pouvait sentir clairement la rivalité entre l’est et l’ouest, il y avait beaucoup d’échanges à haut volume entre les bancs, mais je pense qu’on a bien géré la situation et que nous avons eu le dessus. »
