2025 Junior A World Challenge – Trois-Rivières, Québec – December 7-13
United States 7, Sweden 1
Blake Zielinski led the offence for the United States with four points (2G, 2A).
Marcus Nordmark scored the lone goal for Sweden with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.
Goaltender Ryan Cameron turned aside 29 shots for the Americans, while Douglas Nilsson made 34 saves for Sweden.
Canada East 4, Canada West 3 (SO)
Peter Legostaev (Ottawa, ON/Brockville, CCHL) and Tate Collins (Newmarket, ON/Toronto, OJHL) registered a goal and an assist each for Canada East.
Legostaev, Mavrick Brunet (Laval, QC/Rockland, CCHL) and Brant Romaniuk (Timmins, ON/Timmins, NOJHL) scored in the shootout.
Ethan Stewart (Brandon, MB/Dauphin, MJHL) recorded a goal and a helper for Canada West.
Maksim Corovic (Stoney Creek, ON/Collingwood, OJHL) made 42 saves for Canada East and was perfect in the shootout.
Canada West outshot Canada East 45-28.

“Our goalie [Maksim Corovic] played a great game tonight. Our guys came back from adversity and we were able to bounce back, and I think our resiliency was great tonight. Canada West played a solid game tonight, and they challenged us, but we still have things to improve and we will continue to get better. It was a great overtime [period] for both teams as well, but we tried to maintain possession as much as possible and keep the puck away from [Canada West’s] players. Playing for the country means everything for us, and we want to win for our fans and communities.”

“Both teams had a lot of energy tonight. I am very proud of our group because we showed a lot of character and resiliency, especially through the third period when we were down by one [goal] until the [final minute]. We did not get frustrated. We played a hard game, and I thought everyone played the Canadian way tonight. We could have buried a few more [goals] early, but we kept putting traffic in front of the net and crashing the paint. Our mental toughness was great tonight, and that was important for us to be able to stick to the game plan. I was also happy with our shot selections and the opportunities for rebounds on our chances. We were doing the right thing offensively and getting our chances, and we will take the positive in that.”

« Notre gardien de but [Maksim Corovic] a joué tout un match. Nos joueurs ont bien surmonté l’adversité et nous avons bien rebondi ce soir. J’ai trouvé que nous avons été résilients. Canada Ouest a disputé une excellente partie. Nous avons été mis au défi. Nous devons encore améliorer quelques aspects, nous serons meilleurs lors des prochains duels. C’était une bonne prolongation pour les deux équipes, nous avons tenté de garder possession de la rondelle autant que possible et d’empêcher nos adversaires d’en prendre le contrôle. Représenter notre pays, ça a une énorme signification pour nous, et nous voulons gagner pour nos partisans et partisanes ainsi que la communauté. »
Legostaev sur la victoire en tirs de barrage
« Les deux équipes avaient beaucoup d’énergie. Je suis très fier de notre groupe. Nous avons fait preuve de beaucoup de caractère et de résilience, surtout en troisième période lorsque nous tirions de l’arrière par un but jusqu’à la dernière minute. Nous avons gardé notre calme et joué avec intensité. J’ai trouvé que tout le monde a bien adopté le style canadien ce soir. Nous aurions pu marquer quelques buts en début de rencontre, mais nous avons continué de créer de la circulation devant le filet. Notre force mentale était bonne ce soir. C’était important de bien suivre le plan de match. J’ai aussi aimé nos choix de tirs au but et les occasions de retours que nous avons créées. Nous avons fait les bonnes choses offensivement et nous avons créé nos chances. Nous garderons le positif de tout ça. »
