CJHL Statement Regarding Humboldt Broncos Tragedy

CALGARY, Alta. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League released the following announcement Saturday in regard to Friday’s tragic events involving the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, following a media conference the club has completed in Humboldt, today.

A very emotional day saw Broncos’ Team President Kevin Garinger, SJHL Commissioner Bill Chow, the mayor of Humboldt Rob Meunch, and the RCMP, all addressing the media.

“On behalf of the entire membership of the Canadian Junior Hockey League we send our heartfelt and deepest condolences to all those associated with this unfathomable tragedy, that has touched the lives of everyone across Canada and North America, inside the hockey community and out,” offered CJHL President Brent Ladds.

“The CJHL family mourns the tragic loss and unimaginable grief that has devastated not only the Humboldt Broncos, but its’ family members, billet families, fans, the citizens of the Town of Humboldt and the entire hockey community.”

Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone involved at this time.

Fellow CJHL member leagues across the country, will be conducting a moments silence before their respective games tonight, and in the coming days.

The CJHL gratefully acknowledges the tremendous outpouring of emotion and support nationally and internationally, that has been given to the entire CJHL family, the Humboldt hockey club, and their community.

The CJHL President further offered, “that once again, first responders and medical staffs from hospitals in the region, have lived up to the tremendous standards they set for themselves at these times, and their efforts will have undoubtedly contributed to additional lives, being saved.
