EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard Junior A hockey team and the Edmundston Community Minor Hockey Club (CCHME) are pleased to join forces for a five-year period during which all minor hockey teams will bear the name “Blizzard” starting with the 2023-2024 season.
The announcement was made on Monday, April 24 during a ceremony held at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston when players from the Blizzard junior team symbolically presented new jerseys to young hockey players from the CCHME who were wearing the Predators’ uniform for the last time.
“The Blizzard name has a great reputation in the region as well as on the provincial and national scenes. When minor hockey teams go to play in tournaments all over, other teams will know that the Blizzard comes from Edmundston”, explained André Lebel, President of the Blizzard.
“It is a great way to give a sense of pride to the youth to wear a jersey with the Blizzard colors and name. Many kids who play hockey attend Blizzard games and will certainly be happy to wear their favorite team’s jersey. Of course, it will feel a little strange to lose the Predators identity and colors that have defined us for so long. It was time for a name change,” said CCHME President Jason Parker.
Minor hockey enrollment, especially at the younger levels, skyrocketed after the Blizzard’s first season in 2017-2018. “No one in the area knew about the Junior A ice hockey product,” Lebel reported. “The Blizzard drew amazing crowds in their first season and the playoff championship was the culmination of a dream year. This enthusiasm has spread to minor hockey where we have seen an increase in the number of new players.”
The Blizzard Junior A team will of course retain ownership of its name, logo and all intellectual property surrounding their use.

Les équipes du hockey mineur d’Edmundston s’appelleront le « Blizzard »
EDMUNDSTON, Nouveau-Brunswick – L’équipe de hockey junior A, le Blizzard d’Edmundston, et le Club communautaire du hockey mineur d’Edmundston (CCHME), sont heureux de s’associer pour une période de cinq ans durant laquelle toutes les équipes du hockey mineur porteront le nom de « Blizzard » à compter de la saison 2023-2024.
L’annonce a été faite le lundi 24 avril au cours d’une cérémonie tenue au centre Jean-Daigle d’Edmundston quand des joueurs de l’équipe junior du Blizzard ont remis, de façon symbolique, de nouveaux chandails à des jeunes hockeyeurs du CCHME qui portaient l’uniforme des Prédateurs pour la dernière fois.
« Le nom du Blizzard jouit d’une très grande réputation dans la région ainsi que sur les scènes provinciale et nationale. Quand les équipes du hockey mineur iront jouer dans des tournois un peu partout, les autres formations sauront que le Blizzard provient d’Edmundston », a expliqué le président du Blizzard, André Lebel.
« C’est une belle façon de donner un sentiment de fierté aux jeunes que de porter un gilet aux couleurs et au nom du Blizzard. Beaucoup d’enfants qui pratiquent le hockey assistent aux parties du Blizzard et seront certainement très contents de porter le chandail de leur équipe préférée. Bien sûr, cela fera un peu étrange de perdre l’identité et les couleurs des Prédateurs qui nous ont définis pendant si longtemps. Le temps était venu pour un changement de nom », a pour sa part mentionné le président du CCHME, Jason Parker.
Les inscriptions au hockey mineur, particulièrement chez les plus jeunes, ont connu une ascension fulgurante après la première saison du Blizzard en 2017-2018.
« Personne de la région ne connaissait le produit du hockey junior A, a signalé M. Lebel. Le Blizzard a attiré des foules exceptionnelles lors de sa première saison et le championnat des séries éliminatoires a été le point culminant d’une année de rêve. Cet enthousiasme s’est répandu jusqu’au hockey mineur où on a vu le nombre de nouveaux joueurs augmenter ».
L’équipe junior A du Blizzard gardera évidemment la propriété de son nom, de son logo ainsi que de toutes les propriétés intellectuelles entourant l’utilisation de ceuxci.
