Truro, N.S. (April 23, 2023) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) wishes to formally announce the transfer of the South Shore Lumberjacks franchise to the town of Grand-Bouctouche. The transfer will take effect starting in the 2023-24 season. The Board of Governors recently met in Moncton, N.B. and unanimously approved the move.
“The Maritime Junior Hockey League would like to extend its thanks to Bridgewater and the surrounding area for their support of the team over the years, including their many fans,” says MHL President Troy Dumville.
The franchise began as the Halifax Wolverines in 2004-05. It moved ahead of the 2008-09 season and was renamed the Bridgewater Lumberjacks. The name changed to the South Shore Lumberjacks for the 2014-15 season. During the team’s time in Bridgewater, they made the division final three times.
Owner Dave Hinkley says, “The organization would like to thank all fans, players, staff, volunteers, and sponsors of Lunenburg County for your support since the team’s inception.”
As a result of this move, the franchise will play in the Eastlink North Division. The Summerside Western Capitals will move to the Eastlink South for the 2023-24 season.
Further information regarding the relocation of the South Shore Lumberjacks franchise to Grand-Bouctouche will be released in the near future.

Truro, N.-É. (23 avril 2023) – La Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes (LHM) désire annoncer officiellement le transfert de la franchise des Lumberjacks de South Shore à la ville de Grand-Bouctouche. Le transfert entrera en vigueur à compter de la saison 2023-2024. Le conseil d’administration de la ligue s’est récemment réuni à Moncton, au Nouveau-Brunswick, et a approuvé le transfert à l’unanimité.
« La Ligue de hockey junior des Maritimes aimerait remercier Bridgewater et la région environnante pour leur soutien à l’équipe au fil des ans, y compris leurs nombreux partisans », a déclaré le président de la LHM, Troy Dumville.
La franchise a débuté sous le nom de Wolverines d’Halifax en 2004-2005. Elle a déménagé avant la saison 2008-2009 et a été rebaptisée les Lumberjacks de Bridgewater. Le nom est devenu les South Shore Lumberjacks à compter de la saison 2014-2015. Pendant son séjour à Bridgewater, l’équipe a atteint la finale de section trois fois.
Le propriétaire Dave Hinkley déclare : « L’organisation aimerait remercier tous les partisans, les joueurs, le personnel, les bénévoles et les commanditaires du comté de Lunenburg pour leur soutien depuis la création de l’équipe. »
À la suite de ce déménagement, la franchise jouera dans la section Eastlink nord. Les Western Capitals de Summerside évolueront dans la section Eastlink sud à partir de la saison 2023-2024.
